The sculpture “Piñata” by artist Beatriz Sala Santacana, received the Special Award in Havana Ceramics Biennale 2016, organized by the National Museum of the Contemporary Ceramics of Cuba. The sculpture in question combines glazed ceramics with elements of recycled metal. The jury considered that “a new vision of a popular theme was achieved with freshness and great power of synthesis” at the time of granting the award.
The ceremony took place on Friday, December 9th, during morning hours when the contest was inaugurated by a collective showing at the Spanish-American Center of Culture, with the presence of prominent personalities of the arts scene, as well as of the cultural institutions. Introduced by Fernando Alonso, director of the Museum, the prize awarding included other six competitors in different categories.
The exhibition of the artworks by all participants will remain open until January 5th.
